In the spotlight

•Kylie Bigham of Fort Wayne will appear in a Times Square video Sept. 26 as part of the National Down Syndrome Society’s video production. The photo of Kylie on her first day of preschool last year was selected from 2,500 entries nationwide. The video shows people with Down syndrome working and playing with friends and family.

•Two area homeowners will receive home energy makeovers to help lower their high energy bills. Several Indiana electric cooperatives, including Northeastern REMC, will transform the Baryo home in Churubusco and the Loe home in Larwill on Wednesday.

•Franklin Bryan and Rudolph Mahara, both of Fort Wayne, were among 110 people to receive the Thirty-third Degree, the highest honor of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. The ceremony took place in Boston.

Reunions set

•North Side High School class of 1944 will have its reunion at 6 p.m. today at Hall’s Commissary Restaurant, 216 Indiana 930 W., New Haven. For information or reservations, call 749-2751 or 436-2263.

•General Telephone Co. Toll Office reunion will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at Parkwood Church of God recreational center, 3320 Trier Road. Cost is $4 for the carry-in potluck dinner. Bring own table service and drinks. For information, call 485-0457.

Giving back

•In support of National Hunger Month, Sprint is partnering with Community Harvest Food Bank for a food drive and tailgate party from Thursday to Sept. 27. People can bring a donation of non-perishable food or canned goods at the following Fort Wayne Sprint stores: 5525 Coldwater Road, 427 Coliseum Blvd. W. and 4832 Illinois Road.

•Employees of Aspen Dental Fort Wayne office raised money to buy movies, CDs and toiletries for a teenager who is registered with Hugs and Hope, a nationwide, Internet-based group of volunteers who provide items for kids with serious illnesses, injuries or disabilities.

•Concordia Lutheran High School and Sen. Richard Lugar’s office will be collecting baby wipes through Sept. 30 for local troops serving overseas. Donations can be dropped off at Scott’s Food Stores at 710 E. Dupont Road, 4120 N. Clinton St., 4522 Maplecrest Road and 5725 Coventry Lane; Kroger stores at 601 E. Dupont Road and 6002 St. Joe Center Road; and Sen. Lugar’s office, 6384-A W. Jefferson Blvd.

Volunteers needed

•Volunteers are being sought to help with Ouabache State Park’s Fall Festival Weekend on Oct. 30 and 31. Several volunteer opportunities are available at the Bluffton park, and volunteers will be provided a free meal. To volunteer, call 260-824-0926 or e-mail ouabacheinterp@dnr.in.gov.

•Volunteers are needed to be tax counselors with the AARP Tax Aide program for the 2010 filing season. The Tax Aide program provides free tax help for middle to low-income taxpayers in Allen, Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Wells and Whitley counties. For information, call 486-5654.
