City driver killed in LaGrange crash

A Fort Wayne man was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in LaGrange County.

Mark A. Wilmes, 26, of the 3400 block of Rivulet Court died when his northbound silver 2004 Honda Civic left the east side of Indiana 3 near County Road 250 North at 3:37 p.m.. He overcorrected and slid sideways into the southbound lane, the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department said.

Wilmes' car collided with a blue 2000 Dodge Durango driven by Mark H. Rheinheimer, 39, of the 4500 block of County Road N. 900 W, Orland. Rheinheimer was flown to a hospital with injuries to his leg, chest and face.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Two passengers in the Durango were also injured. Emily Rheimheimer, 12, had leg pain and Katie Rheimheimer, 4, had facial bruising.

The accident remains under investigation. The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, LaGrange EMS and Mongo Fire Department.
