Tickling the ivories

Notre Dame senior strong safety Kyle McCarthy is taking postgraduate classes this year.

McCarthy is taking nine credit hours studying environmental crisis, human anthropology and piano. That's right, piano.

The safety has a solid reason for studying piano.

"I have no previous expertise in the area," McCarthy said. "However, not that I need help, but I feel like the female population might like that."

Fellow captain Scott Smith couldn't let the chance go by to throw in his two cents.

"We are actually trying to set up a recital, sometime this year, so he can showcase his skills," the special teams captain joked. "Just throwing that out there."
