Grand jurors returned a single indictment Monday against a Wabash County man in connection with the July death of his wife.
Scott Pattison, 39, of La Fontaine, faces a single count of murder. He is being held without bail at the Wabash County Jail.
Pattison told police he came home from work July 2 and discovered his wife, Lisa Pattison, 36, had an accident while exercising with a weight machine at their home. She was found lying on a weight bench in a basement fitness room with a weight bar across her throat, he said.
Scott Pattison put his wife in his vehicle and was driving her to Marion General Hospital in Marion, about 12 miles away, when he called authorities. Grant County police and paramedics intercepted him on Indiana 15, about six miles from his home. Lisa Pattison was given first aid but later died.
This month the Grant County Coroners Office ruled Lisa Pattisons death a homicide.
An autopsy, toxicology and microscopic examinations found that Pattisons probable cause of death was asphyxia due to neck compression.
Grand jurors first met last Tuesday.
They returned their indictment against Pattison on Monday and the Wabash County man was arrested about 3 p.m., Wabash County Prosecutor William Hartley said.
Pattison is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. today in Wabash Circuit Court for an initial hearing, Hartley said.
