Notre Dame is 4-1, but the Irish remain on the outside of the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls.
The Irish received nine votes in the AP poll, and they got 57 votes in the USA Today/Coaches poll.
Coach Charlie Weis seems perplexed by the lack of respect for his team, which has won its last three games in dramatic fashion.
“I think if you look at some of the other teams that are playing and how their games have gone, tell me where the difference is,” Weis said. “I can go right up to the top 10 and work right on down, you tell me which teams in there that haven’t had some trouble in their schedule. Almost everybody has.
“We’ve had one loss by four points on the road with 11 seconds to go in the game. On the flip side of it, we are 11 seconds from being undefeated right now. I think if you really study the polls, you have to study which teams that are there. Who they played; how the played; and what’s going on in theirs. If you compare apples to apples, I think we deserve to be in there right with everybody else.”
