Traffic was slowed on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County on Monday afternoon after a crash between a car and a tractor-trailer rig, according to Indiana State Police.
The crash was reported just after 3 p.m. Monday on the interstate just north of the Allen County-DeKalb County line. There a Chevy Cavalier driven by Mildred Foltz, 81, of Fort Wayne, was traveling north.
Foltz made a left turn into an interstate turnaround – reserved for authorized vehicles only – and turned into the path of a southbound truck rig, police said.
Foltzs car was struck in the rear. She was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne and her condition was not available Monday night.
The driver of the truck rig, Berthel Cunningham, 57, of Beecher City, Ill., was not injured.
Traffic was slowed for about an hour as crews worked to clean up the wreck.
An Orland man was injured Monday afternoon when he fell off a silo, according to Steuben County sheriffs deputies.
The fall was reported just after 2 p.m. Monday at 5560 North 800 West in Orland. Heath Penick, 33, was working on the silo and for an unknown reason fell off, deputies said. Deputies estimate he fell 45 to 60 feet. Penick suffered head and internal injuries. He was taken by medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Penick was in critical condition Monday, according to the Orland Fire Department.
