In the three months ended September 30, employers in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio announced plans to add 1,080 more workers than they planned to cut, according to a quarterly analysis by The Journal Gazette. Its the first of three such analyses to suggest a net gain of jobs in the 15-county region.

July 7 - Meridian Automotive Systems Inc. closed its Grabill plant putting 122 employees out of work.
July 8 – Fort Wayne defense contractor Riverside Mfg. LLC said it would create 32 jobs as it invests more than $1 million to build a stand-alone engineering center, expand its factory and add new equipment.
July 11 – The Northeast Indiana Innovation Center said it had attracted an anchor that will create 35 well-paying jobs by the end of 2010.
July 14 – Aerial-lift maker Altec LLC said it would close its Fort Wayne plant, putting 64 employees out of work.
July 15 – Fort Wayne Foundry called back 105 hourly workers to its Columbia City plant to fill a six-month contract making water pumps for General Motors Corp., the union representing the workers said.
July 18 – Albion-based Busche Enterprise Division Inc., said it was adding six jobs because of a new three-year contract with an auto supplier.
July 30 – Kroger Co. said it was closing the Scotts Food & Pharmacy store in Angola. The stores 26 full-time and 49 part-time employees are being given the opportunity to transfer.
Aug. 4 – After a long history making motors in Fort Wayne, General Electric Co. said it planned to stop by March. About 24 jobs will be cut.
Aug. 4 – The United Auto Workers said about 115 General Motors Co. workers at the Allen County assembly plant took a buyout, as did 60 at the Defiance, Ohio, foundry.
Aug. 4 – Three Rivers Federal Credit Union said it was about $3 million to build two offices in the next 12 months, creating six to 10 new jobs.
Aug. 5 - Sweden-based Dometic LLC said it was moving 116 jobs making retractable awnings for RVs to LaGrange from Mexico.
Aug. 5 – Churubusco-based C&A Tool announced that it was adding $2.6 million worth of high-precision equipment, a move that will create six jobs.
Aug. 7 – ICON Exhibits announced plans to invest $4.3 million on a 20,000-square-foot building addition and potentially create almost 60 new jobs over the next three years.
Aug. 18 – Michigan retailer ABC Warehouse said it would create 50 jobs when it opens a local store in early October.
Aug. 20 – Fleetwood RV Inc. said it likely will add 300 workers to its Decatur operations in the next three months.
Aug. 21 – The union representing 20 workers at Fort Wayne sprinkler system fabricator Ferguson Fire & Fabrication Inc. said the company planned to close.
Aug. 28 – Busche Enterprise Inc. announced that it secured a deal that would allow it to hire seven.
Aug. 29 – Walmart said it was remodeling three northeast Indiana stores creating 60 to 80 temporary jobs.
Sept. 1 – The Summit Club in Fort Wayne said it would close, putting 40 out of work.
Sept. 2 – Advanced Engineering Inc. of Huntington said it would add 15 to its workforce in the coming year and invest $1.5 million in its operation.
Sept. 3 - Precision Tank & Equipment Co. said it would build a $2.5 million plant to manufacture storage tanks for farm chemicals, creating 14 jobs.
Sept. 10 - The Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream plant in Huntington said it was spending $6 million to moderniz the $9.7 million worth of equipment in the plant. It is also adding seven jobs to its workforce of 193.
Sept. 15 – Metaldyne Corp. said it would lay off an additional 50 workers from its Edon, Ohio, plant in coming weeks.
Sept. 18 – Bio-Lab Inc., a maker of household chemicals such as The Works, said it planned to close its Ashley plant in DeKalb County next year, likely costing 55 workers their jobs.
Sept. 22 – Fort Wayne-based Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. said it plans to invest more than $5.2 million to build a customer service center, a project expected to create up to 60 jobs by 2012.
Sept. 23 - A.K. Furniture Distribution said it likely would add 14 full-time positions and a part-time job to its Fort Wayne Operations.
Sept. 23 – General Motors Co. announced it would add a third shift and 700 jobs to its Allen County assembly plant by April.
Sept. 23 – JH Specialty, a Fort Wayne marketing and Web-development company, announced plans to break ground on an $870,000 building. The company also said it plans to hire 31 people over the next five years.
Sept. 25 – Albion-based Busche Enterprise Inc. announced it had won a contract that will create 40 jobs.
Sept. 25 – Warner Electric, a manufacturer of clutch and brake systems for various industries, plans to expand its Columbia City operation, creating up to 20 new jobs by 2012.
Sept. 25 - Aldi said it was opening its third Fort Wayne grocery on the citys northwest side at 10007 Lima Road, just south of the Dupont Road intersection. The average Aldi store employs seven to 10.
