GM convoys return to I-69 Wednesday

Drivers can again expect delays on southbound Interstate 69 this week as General Motors’ oversized loads return to the route between Grand Rapids, Mich., and Marion, Ind.

The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Indiana State Police announced Tuesday morning that GM press sections will cause slowdowns between the state line and Marion Exit 64 beginning Wednesday morning:

  • Wednesday – Arrive in Fort Wayne about 9:30 a.m. and Marion before noon.
  • Thursday – Arrive in Fort Wayne about 9:30 a.m. and Marion before noon.
  • Friday – Arrive in Fort Wayne about 9:30 a.m. and Marion before noon.
Eleven of 15 press sections have been moved so far, and Tuesday's announcement said the last moving day is expected to be Oct. 21.

Convoys are moving press sections from the General Motors plant in Grand Rapids to the GM Metal Fabrication Plant in Marion.

Indiana counties involved in the move: Allen, Grant, Steuben, DeKalb, Noble, Whitley, Huntington, Wells and Wabash.
