Driver, passengers ID’d in fatal crash

None of the 4 in compact car wore seat belts

Authorities have released the names of four people from Kentucky killed in a Whitley County crash this week.

The driver, 27-year-old Richard C. Rardin, of Clay City, Ky., was northbound and tried to pass in a no-passing zone Tuesday afternoon on Indiana 5 just south of Larwill. His Plymouth Neon slammed head-on into a southbound GMC Yukon, police said.

Rardin died of head and internal injuries. Also killed were his three passengers: Amanda G. Hollon, 29, of Winchester, Ky., Shara D. Means, 34, of Stanton, Ky., and Shannel R. Gabbard, 21, also of Stanton.

The SUV driver, 56-year-old John R. Brooks of Roanoke, was taken to Fort Wayne’s Parkview Hospital complaining of pain.

None of the people in the Neon driven by Rardin was wearing a seat belt, police said.
