On the benefits of not going to two-a-day practices this week, even though with Notre Dame on fall break, the team wasn't restricted to 20 hours of practice time: "First thing is they got a lot more sleep. These guys usually get going by 6 o'clock in the morning. Usually their day goes to 10:30 at night, and that's before they get back to their dorm. That's a long day, 6 in the morning to 10:30 at night. That's pretty regular.
They got a lot of sleep. They got treatment, and the chance to watch more tape. I think the fact that the students weren't around, especially psychologically coming off that loss, it was very tranquil. There was a lot of peace and quiet around here this week. I think it was good for all of them."
On getting backup quarterback Dayne Crist more playing time: "Right now, we are trying to beat Boston College. I'm not worried about getting Dayne action."
On freshman running back Cierre Wood, who wasn't at practice Tuesday: "Cierre won't dress for the game. He's down for the whole weekend. He won't be back until Monday. We've had, I'd say over the last month, we've had several guys miss days with the flu.
The only one whose not going to be there because of sickness would be Cierre. (Sophomore offensive guard) Braxton (Cave) just got back, and (sophomore offensive tackle) Lane Clelland just got back. Sometimes it's not the frontline guys you will notice all the time, it has gone through a whole bunch of guys."
On changes in the defensive back field: "You could see (safety) Sergio (Brown) in the game, You could see (cornerback) Jamoris Slaughter in the game. You could see those guys show up in the game. Both of them."
