They waived Laise to make room on roster

The Fort Wayne Komets have come to terms with forward Tomas Klempa and defenseman Frankie DeAngelis and hope to have both in uniform for Friday's home opener against the Bloomington PrairieThunder, pending league approval of their contracts.

To make room on the roster, the Komets waived forward Vince Laise and placed defenseman Kevin Bertram (hamstring) on injured reserve.

The team is also talking to forward Sean O'Connor, 22, who played for Fort Wayne last season and was released by Kalamazoo of the ECHL on Wednesday. O'Connor, who had 23 goals and 47 points in 59 games last season, must clear waivers in the ECHL before Fort Wayne can move forward in negotiations with him. General manager David Franke said it's a possibility Fort Wayne signs him.

Klempa, 25, had two assists in nine games last season with Wheeling of the ECHL. DeAngelis, 24, had three goals and 10 points in 35 games last season with American International College.

Laise, 26, was scoreless in two games with Fort Wayne (1-1-0) this season.

About 9,000 tickets have been sold for Friday's game.
