An Auburn man was injured in an off-road vehicle accident Thursday evening near Butler.

Thomas K. Makin, 27, was driving a four-wheeler westbound at about 6:25 p.m. in the 7500 block of DeKalb County Road 16 near Butler with a 4-year-old Butler boy as a passenger, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Don Warner.

Makin was following another four-wheeler being driven by his brother, Kyle Makin, 23, of Butler.

Thomas Makin collided with his brother's four-wheeler when Kyle Makin made a sharp U-turn to the left.

Thomas Makin and his passenger were ejected from the all-terrain vehicle and thrown into the roadway.

Makin suffered head injuries and was taken to DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn, then later transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

The 4-year-old boy sustained minor leg injuries. He was treated and released at DeKalb Memorial Hospital.

Kyle Makin was not injured in the collision. No one was wearing a helmet or protective gear, according to the conservation officer.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department and EMS assisted Warner in his investigation.
