IU takes 28-19 lead into fourth

A safety on a blocked punt for Northwestern accounted for the only points in the third quarter. IU leads 28-19. The Hoosiers had two interceptions.

The first, by Matt Mayberry, ended a Northwestern drive deep in Indiana territory.

The Wildcats cut the deficit when Ricky Weina blocked a Chris Hagerup punt. IU’s Terrance Thomas jumped on the ball in the end zone for a safety.

Austin Thomas intercepted a Mike Kafka pass with 5:06 remaining in the quarter. It was the senior’s fourth interception against the Wildcats in his career.

The Hoosiers made it to Northwestern’s 1 following Thomas’ interception. They went for it on fourth down with Mitchell Evans at quarterback. Evans looked to pass, rolling right, but couldn’t find anyone. He raced back to the left side and appeared to find a hole but was tripped up before reaching the end zone.
