Woman found shot in garage dies

A Wells County woman with a toddler in the house was shot and killed Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Robert Frantz said Amy White, 28, was found shot in the garage at 0649 East County Road 100 South after a call came in at 9:22 a.m.

She had two bullet wounds in her chest and was taken to Bluffton Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, Frantz said.

The sheriff said the woman's husband was at the home at the time and was at the Wells County Jail as of about 1 p.m. Tuesday. Frantz said the man was cooperating with police.

No charges had been filed in connection with the shooting as of 1 p.m. Frantz said.

The sheriff said the two were separated and going through a divorce.

A toddler who was in the house at the time of the shooting was unharmed and is staying with relatives, Frantz said.

The Indiana State Police and the sheriff's department were still on the scene at 1 p.m., Frantz said.
