Car hits tree after missing curve

A Montpelier, Ohio, man was trapped in his car for a short time Monday night after his car hit a tree in rural Williams County near Bryan.

James Hutchinson, 33, was flown to Toledo Hospital with serious injuries, the Defiance Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

According to a written statement from the post, Hutchinson’s 1995 Chrysler New Yorker was going east on Defiance County Road 15.5 about 8:30 p.m. when it went off the roadway on a curve near County Road I, hitting a tree. It said he was not wearing his seat belt and that he had to be removed using mechanical means.

The post said the crash remains under investigation.

The Bryan Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The hospital said Hutchinson was later released from the hospital.
