Bill Lynch is not going anywhere.
Athletic director Fred Glass said Lynch would remain the team’s football coach "for the duration" of his current four-year contract.
"I had gotten quite a few questions about coach Lynch’s situation to the point where I really thought I needed to share my thoughts. It came down to the question of whether or not he was going to be the coach next year and my answer to that is of course he’s going to be the coach next year," Glass said in a phone interview this afternoon.
Lynch has a 14-19 record since becoming the coach in 2007. He is in the second of a four-year contract with IU.
The Hoosiers are 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten as they prepare for Iowa.
"It’s been an up-and-down year. There are some positive signs to build on and have some optimism about the program going forward," Glass said. "That’s why I’m hopefully he will be here even beyond the years of the current agreement.
"…You have to put it a little bit in context. We were coming off a 3-9 year, a shellacking against Purdue. Sports Illustrated said we would win two games all year, and here we sit at 4-4."
