Homestead High School took fourth place, and Snider High School nabbed the eighth-place ranking in the Class A competition.
The two northeast Indiana high schools were among 40 bands to compete at the Indiana State School Music Association State Marching Band Finals Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Avon High School was the state champion in Class A.
Based on the size of their high schools, the bands are divided into four classes, and four state titles were awarded Saturday.
During a drum break in Homestead’s show, titled "Reactions," each percussion instrument was showcased as the group moved toward the front of the field. The snare drums moved their hands in unison as they did their part, turning toward the back of the field to allow the quads, then the bass drums, to make their mark.
Snider’s show, titled "Enlightenment," began with the droning of the tubas. The rest of the brass soon entered in a staccato manner, apparently pleasing band director Kevin Klee, who clapped his hands furiously above his head. The show ended with a flute soloist, who had the rest of the wind instruments kneeling around her with balls in their hands, closing the show.
