Denali didn’t have to walk a mile to make us proud.

Oh poop!

It was a big milestone for Denali. OK, not so big, but a milestone nonetheless.

He pooped in the yard!

It was the first time in our three months of ownership that our adorable Siberian husky didn’t need to walk a mile – or two. He simply saw the treat, was told "Go poop!" and proceeded to sniff for minutes. Just as I was about to give up, he assumed the position and did his business.

Lots of praise, treats and a walk followed. I didn’t even clean it up, saving it as evidence for my husband.

Denali’s progress has been slow, but steady. He has since done his business several times in the yard. Once, he barked, alerting my husband that he needed to go outside. Within seconds, he was finished. Today, he went twice in the yard: in the morning and afternoon.

My husband and I think a lot of it has to do with timing. Denali won’t be able to poop simply because we told him. BUT, and a big but, we do think a month-plus of treating, exclamations of "Go poop!" and constant praise for not going in the house have helped.

It took a lot of patience but it was no doubt worth it.
