Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis can feel happy about his defense again.
The Irish had their best defensive performance since the season opener in Saturday's 40-14 victory over Washington State in San Antonio.
Notre Dame held the Cougars to 206 yards, and maybe the most important part, the Irish didn't give up a passing play for 20 yards or more.
"I was happy with the defense pretty much the whole game," Weis said. "Eight three-and-outs in the game. The first defense only gave up 100 yards of offense. They gave up 200 yards for the whole game, but when the first guys were in there, I think it was 109 yards they gave up. That was pretty impressive. … No explosives in the passing, which when was the last time we could say that."
