DeKalb County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

The assault, against a 29-year-old rural Hamilton woman, occurred July 21. Since then, police have been looking for the perpetrator, who held the woman at knifepoint while he forced her to perform a sexual act. All the while her 2 1/2 -year-old child was in the woman’s farmhouse, police said.

Last Thursday a person told police a man who may have information about the case about 1:30 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter at 2016 N. Wayne St. in Angola, according to DeKalb County police Detective Lee Stoy.

Stoy declined to release details on who the witness is or how they believe the man has information about the crime. Police are calling the man a person of interest, and said they would like to talk to him to see whether he has information about the case.

The suspect in the sexual assault is described as a man, about 5-foot-5, 200 pounds, white, in his 30s with a full beard and mustache and brown hair.

He left the woman’s home, driving away on Indiana 1 in a maroon four-door sedan toward Hamilton, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact police at 260-925-3365.
