"Fans' Banner" returns

The 1983 Big Ten championship banner, known as "The Fans' Banner" returned to hanging in the North End of Assembly Hall.

From an IU media relations press release:

Coach (Bob) Knight told the crowd that Indiana did not put up Big Ten championship banners, but out of gratitude for their support and enthusiasm, they would hoist one up to honor the 1983 team. He told the crowd, "It's the fans' banner".

It is the only banner dedicated to one specific Big Ten title. IU coach Tom Crean asked athletic director Fred Glass if it could return after hearing the story, according to IU's news release.

"Now help us get another one," Crean told the crowd prior to Wednesday's exhibition game with Grace.
