Notre Dame nose tackle Ian Williams experienced a first in the Irish's 40-14 blowout of Washington State.

The 6-foot-2, 295-pound junior intercepted a Jeff Tuel pass early in the fourth quarter. Williams said he almost intercepted a pass as a senior in high school but he dropped it.

He was ready for the one last Saturday in San Antonio.

"It was a great feeling," Williams said of the interception. "I was like is he really throwing the ball. I had to jump up and tip it. Before worrying about having to run or do I have the chance to run, I was like I got to catch this. I ended up falling."

Williams said if he gets another interception, he's going to try for the end zone.

"After looking on film, there was nobody in front of me," Williams said. "At least, I would have gotten 10 yards."
