Alade Aminu, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward who played at Georgia Tech, was the first-round NBA Development League draft pick of the Mad Ants on Thursday night.
Although the Ants had indicated that they would seek a perimeter player in the early selections, they went with Aminu, who averaged 11.8 points and eight rebounds per game last season.
But first-year coach Joey Meyer said don’t go out and buy an Aminu jersey just yet.
"We like Aminu because he’s a heck of an athlete, but we haven’t taken off the board the possibility of a trade, so we’re keeping all our options open right now," Meyer said. "We’re talking to some teams about the possibility, but we do like the young guy. If the trade opportunities don’t come through, we’ve got a heck of a player."
