K's waive Saidachev

Warner could play this weekend

By Justin A. Cohn
The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne Komets have waived Evgeny Saidachev, a forward, who had one assist and a minus-2 rating in seven games, general manager David Franke confirmed Monday night.

They could activate defenseman Brandon Warner, the Huntertown native, who has been out all season with a hip injury, in time for Friday's game against the Quad City Mallards.

There is still no word on when Matt Syroczynski could return from Norfolk of the American Hockey League, but when he does the Komets will need to release someone else, or put them on injured reserve.

Playoff MVP David Hukalo (shoulder) is still a few weeks away from returning to the lineup, though he is practicing with the team.

Justin A. Cohn, pro sports coordinator for The Journal Gazette, has been covering the Fort Wayne Komets since 1997. His reporting includes game stories from home and away, features about the players and personalities associated with the Komets, plus coverage of issues affecting hockey at all levels. A native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Cohn graduated from Emory University in Atlanta. He can be reached at 260-461-8429 or by email at jcohn@jg.net.

AvatarI talked to warner Sat. Night, he said he will be back on the ice wednesday, if i remember correctly.

Warner was on 92.3 the Fort this afternoon and said he would be playing this Friday...sounds like Syroczynski wont be back this weekend by the looks of it if they are activating Warner this soon. By the way, Warner said he would be out on the power play. I'm not sure but I'm guessing they will take Shaf or Guy off the 1st team PP offense.

AvatarNo Kevin Bertram sightings?

Is Bert not in the plans?

AvatarHey Hit, you could have at least thrown up a link if you're going to quote my work on the message boards. Just saying ... courtesy.

AvatarHey Cohn....I think I put the message up on FYC before you put yours on here.....I didn't see your blog until after I put that on FYC. I saw the IHL page and looked under transactions and found it, then posted it on FYC. So next time you steal from me, post my link....Komet Warrior....LOL

Posted by HitSomebody!!! at 11/09/09 11:47:00 PM

AvatarHere is your proof too....from FYC

Posted Today, 07:48 PM

Per the IHL Transactions.....(11-09-09) Evgeny Saidachev (F) Placed on waivers

I thought he would be one of the guys let go, he is a solid player, but you have Hukalo coming back, and there is a salary cap. Someone will sign him if they have money to do so.

Looks like the Komets are freeing up some roster space....

Hukalo, Bertram, and Warner are coming off the IR soon.

Possible new signing coming??? Doubtful. The Komets have to waive 2 more guys when Syrocynski comes back from the AHL.

My guess.......Warner or Bertram.......and Phillips. It might be Travis Whitehead though. We'll see by Friday.

Also, Tyler Sims was in practice this morning for the K's. Boucher has an injured thumb....he states he is fine and will play this weekend......but Sims is here if need be.

HMMMMMMMM????? Apologize Cohn.

AvatarWhat are you talking about? I'm talking about the stuff from practice. It was a joke anyway.

Posted by Justin Cohn at 11/10/09 03:01:00 AM

Saidachev being waived is unfortunate but not unexpected. He is a solid player and with the right team and situation he could be a decent point producer. I would look for Quad City or Dayton to go after him. Quad City seems to need help at the moment and Saidachev would help fill a void for them.....I read where Mightbite has blogged that the K's are bringing in a tough guy. I wish he was more explicit on that because the K's have a rash of roster decisions to make without adding to it.....I have no idea what is going to happen, but I wonder if the K's are bringing Warner off the IR and then are going to waive him also....it feels like something is "up" and decisions on the roster makeup will be coming fast. Syrocynzski's situation does not help matters as no one seems to know what the future is with him. This is a good example of why being able to control your roster is such a good thing. Think how uncertain things would be if we had three of four players up in the AHL and had no idea when they would be back....anyway, these are just my thoughts. I have no "inside information."

AvatarAnyone heading up to Muskegon on Sunday??

Posted by Jerad Shaw at 11/10/09 11:36:00 AM

AvatarWell I'm reposting this since Justin ignored me or at the very least could have acknowledged he didn't know the answer. So I will ask fellow bloggers to see if they might know!

I was looking on the IHL website and looking at the diff games over the weekend. During the Muskegon vs Dayton game Friday nite Todd Robinson recieved a minor penalty in the 3rd at the 18:26 mark, then at :31 into overtime he rcvd a leaving the penalty bench penalty. His penalty that carried over from the 3rd would have been over by 5 seconds. So I don't understand this call!

And besides that, will Robinson get the mandatory 10 game suspension for this then?

Posted by YouWanna at 11/10/09 12:04:00 PM

AvatarI didn't see the post, YouWanna. Hmm, I'm not sure about the answer on that one. The only thing I can think of is that he left the penalty box to go to the bench, which is a call. I'll see if I can find out later today.

AvatarThank You Justin

Posted by YouWanna at 11/10/09 01:37:00 PM

This is just an educated guess but since it appeared that was no signs of any altercation at the time (according to the scoresheet) I would assume he just left the box early (before the full 2:00 were up). If that is the case than it is just a 2:00 minor penalty. If he were to leave the box during an altercation or to engage in an altercation that is where the 10 game suspension would come in.

Posted by Nasty Dangles at 11/10/09 02:07:00 PM

YouWanna,

I saw this also, Robinson left the box a second to early, not to get an in altercation, but the call wasn't made until his team gained control of the puck, which was about 5 seconds after his orginal penalty expired. This does not consitute(sp) a suspension, a 2 minute penalty is warrented though, and thats what he recieved. Hepe that helps.

Posted by Kmtshcky17 S at 11/10/09 02:16:00 PM

AvatarOk that makes sense. Thanks Kmtshcky17S. Although I will also say, Doesn't the official in the penalty box have to open the door?

Posted by YouWanna at 11/10/09 04:58:00 PM

AvatarIn another game, I believe it was Muskegon(again) vs Bloomington. David Rohlfs was given a Game Misconduct at the 12:28 mark of the 3rd period. But somehow he was assesed a 5 minute major for fighting at the 20 minute mark to end the game. How can that be if your given a game misconduct?

Just making conversation!

Posted by YouWanna at 11/10/09 05:04:00 PM

YouWanna--- That simply means it was added by the referee after the game was over. He may have been advised to do that by the supervisor that was there or he could have come up with it all by himself. That was a very good question. I hope I helped you out.

Posted by Dennis Schebig at 11/10/09 05:53:00 PM

AvatarThis from the league: Robinson went in the box at 18:26, came out of the box at :26 in the OT. His minor was for leaving the box early. No suspension, he was just on the ice a few seconds early.

HitSomebody

My guess.......Warner or Bertram.......and Phillips. It might be Travis Whitehead though. We'll see by Friday.

Just so you know Phillips is tied for 4th in the league in /- and leading the Komets. As a defenseman that's huge and a low paid rookie. I think that's a good guy to have on a roster. Just my point of view

Posted by Matt Allen at 11/11/09 12:29:00 AM

AvatarThanks for the info from everyone. Some say I pay too much attention to detail. Can't help myself. Just like to make sure the league is playin by the books and not calling it as they go.

AvatarSorta neat to see some former Komet players on the same team again.

AvatarSo Matt....who do you cut when Syro, Bertram, and Warner come back? 3 guys will have to go. What 3 do you see going? I don't want Phillips to go.....but would you cut Mironovic or DeAngelis or Woodard or Guy or Stayzer? You bring back 2 defensemen, and most likely 2 defensemen have to go. Just saying.

Posted by HitSomebody!!! at 11/11/09 05:41:00 PM

AvatarShould have said when Hukalo, Bertram, and Syro come back.....Warner is coming back, and Saidachev is bye-bye.

Posted by HitSomebody!!! at 11/11/09 05:42:00 PM

My bet is Rodgers will be out of the lineup as a healthy scratch. Moronovic I think is the least skilled D-man we have, but he can move people in front of the net. DeAngelis and Woodard are good with the puck but have a long way to go in the D zone. I think those two are the same type player. So I think Rodgers will get canned and so will Woodard. If Rodgers goes then Phillips will have to start some fights to replace the good ones Rodger would have had. As for a forward I see Varone as the odd man out. You need to keep Stayzer because he can play forward and D. Just my views and I am sure that is why I don't run the team and people who do know to run the team do a very good job. (most of the time) :-)

Posted by Matt Allen at 11/12/09 02:11:00 AM

Matt,
I agree with you for the most part. If they cut 2 d-men, I think it will be Woodard and Phillips, though. I'd agree with you about Varone, though. He's good, but just too inconsistent. It's a tough decision any way you cut it, and I'm glad I'm not the one making those decisions.

Posted by Nathan Eddy at 11/12/09 02:16:00 PM

AvatarI think I would keep Varone, and Whitehead would be gone...not that i don't like him....he just hasn't lived up to the hype yet. No one knows what Bertrams deal is though....things have been pretty quiet on that situation. Is he a lock to come back...???

My guess is Phillips and Whitehead or Klempa will be cut.....and Bertram will retire.

Posted by HitSomebody!!! at 11/12/09 10:26:00 PM

Why do you guys think Phillips will get cut. I think its kind of hard to cut the player with the best /- on the team. As a rookie he can't count that much against the cap. Remember D-men who play D.
