Indiana called a timeout with 2:35 to play Saturday. Wisconsin followed with one of its own to avoid a delay of game.
What followed was the biggest play of the game.
Badgers quarterback Scott Tolzien completed a 17-yard pass to Nick Toon on third-and-8.
The first down all but wrapped up Wisconsins 31-28 victory.
IU called for a blitz on the play, but the Hoosiers never got to Tolzien.
We didnt get there fast enough, Hoosiers defensive end Jammie Kirlew said. There was a breakdown in coverage a little bit, the quarterback saw the open guy and hit him.
All the offensive players could do was sit and wait for a chance that never came.
We were just trying to clamp down to get the ball back to give ourselves an opportunity to come down and win the game, Hoosiers wide receiver Terrance Turner said.
Of course that didnt happen, we ran out of time; but it just goes to show you that whenever you have a chance, maybe early in the ballgame, you never know what possession will really change the game.
Maybe a play or two in the first half, we would have been up at that point of time so we have take advantage of our opportunities. (Saturday) we did that for the most part, but not as much as we needed to win.
