Allen County officials will continue providing a second dose of the H1N1 vaccine to children this week and have added the seasonal flu vaccine back into the mix.

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health announced that it will have another public clinic from 2 to 6:30 p.m. today at Carew Medical Park, 1818 Carew St.

The nasal mist H1N1 vaccine will be available for healthy children and young adults ages 2 to 24 plus caregivers of infants younger than 6 months.

Caregivers must be younger than 49.

Pregnant women cannot take this vaccine.

Children younger than 10 need two doses of the vaccine four weeks apart to be fully protected.

Children who were vaccinated on or before Oct. 13 can return to the clinic for their second dose.

Parents will need to bring their child’s vaccination card with them to receive the second dose.

Parents can also request a copy of their child’s immunization record from the county health department’s main office, on the fifth floor of the City-County Building, during business hours.

No injection form of the H1N1 vaccine will be available.

Allen County has also received more seasonal flu vaccine. The shots will be available to children 6 months to 18 years.

Wells and Steuben counties are also planning public flu clinics this week to vaccinate people against the H1N1 virus.

Wells County will conduct a clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Bluffton High School. The vaccine is available for those ages 6 months to 24 years; caregivers for children younger than 6 months; pregnant women; adults ages 25 to 64 with chronic health conditions.

Steuben County will have a clinic from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the multipurpose room of the Steuben County Community Center, 317 S. Wayne St., Angola. The clinic will provide the injection form of the vaccine to caregivers of infants younger than 6 months; young adults ages 18 to 24; and adults ages 25 to 64 with chronic health conditions such as lung, heart, liver, kidney or immune diseases.
