The Dish

  • New menus on tap for zoo restaurants
Every year, a half-million people trek to the city’s beloved zoo – that’s equivalent to 140 percent of the population of Allen County – and this summer, they will have entirely new recipes for their food options.
  • BakerStreet adding craft beers to menu
Though craft beer has been gaining popularity across the country for years, it’s not quite common in the Fort Wayne market.
  • Old Crown offers tastes of whiskeys
I went to my first whiskey tasting last year at a local liquor store.

Lucky’s taking Moose’s name, menu faves

Do moose like sushi?

Business partners Mark Melchi and Rick Rutledge are about to find out.

They have changed the name of Lucky’s Terrapin Grill to The Lucky Moose and added plenty of Moosewood BBQ favorites – and sushi – to the menu.

(They run both restaurants; Moosewood BBQ is still open at 5910 St. Joe Road.)

They’ll celebrate with a combined grand opening and Friday the 13th party this weekend at The Lucky Moose, 622 E. Dupont Road.

On Friday, enjoy 13-cent (per ounce) beer specials all day, and 13-cent peel-and-eat shrimp starting at 5 p.m. With another purchase, you can also order 13-cent boneless wings after 5 p.m.

The specials increase to 14 cents on Saturday. Live music begins at 9:30 p.m. both nights.

Some Moosewood menu items that have migrated to The Lucky Moose include smoked ribs, smoked chicken salad, quesadillas, pulled pork, fried green tomatoes and “smack and cheese.”

Other new dishes include grilled prime rib, Royal Red shrimp, swordfish, mussels, scallops, shrimp Florentine, shrimp primavera and pesto chicken pasta. New pizzas are Buffalo chicken, Thai chicken, pesto and Hawaiian. (All pizzas and flatbreads are topped with a blend of smoked cheeses.)

The restaurant has been expanded; it now accommodates up to 90 people for private parties.
