Exciting hockey at Memorial Coliseum so far tonight, and a big reason is the speed of the Dayton Gems.
I think it caught the Komets off guard at first -- they haven't played Dayton since opening night -- but Fort Wayne has the lead thanks to a Matt Woodard shot from about 45 feet out.
Compared to Friday night's snoozer, a 2-1 victory over Quad City, this game has been fun.
Colin Chaulk missed on a breakaway. Leo Thomas whiffed during a 2-on-1 rush.
There was also a fight between Blair Stayzer of Fort Wayne and Dayton's Derek Parker. I'm starting to get on board with the fans a bit on Stayzer's fighting. He needs to spend a little more time punching and a little less grabbing the jersey. That being said, I wouldn't want to tangle with him. And he certainly fires up the rest of the Komets. He just hasn't settled in yet as a brawler here.
