Indiana improved to 2-0 by holding on for a 69-61 win against USC-Upstate. The Hoosiers held a 20-point lead, 60-40, with 9:08 remaining. The Spartans trimmed it to eight, 65-57, with 2:20 to go. Last year's group might have seen the lead completely melt away. But this year's more talented squad found a way to win.
"We did some things well, we just got tested and they hit some jumpers and when we got fouled and put to the free-throw line, we didn't hit as many as we would have liked," freshman Derek Elston said.
"We learned that we just have to work harder. We have to bring it our all every time. Just because we're up 20 we can't just think we won the game. We have to play defense and see if we can get it to 25 or 30. We just have to keep pushing and keep going."
