Cosmopolitan campus

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that the number of foreign students studying in the U.S. hit an all-time high in 2008, with 671,616 international students enrolled. That's an increase of 8 percent from 2007.

Purdue University-West Lafayette ranks fifth among all doctoral institutions, with 15 percent -- 6,136 -- of its students foreign-born. USC ranks No. 1, followed by New York University, Columbia and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
