85-year-old woman defies carjacker

Rather than complying with a carjacker's demand to drive elsewhere, an 85-year-old Ohio woman drove around the block and stopped at city hall.

The Hicksville Police Department said the woman made a transaction about 2 p.m. Monday at the First Place Bank on North Main Street and got into her car. A young woman had followed her into the bank, police said, and then got in the passenger's side of the car, claiming to have a knife.

Ignoring the carjacker's instructions about where to drive, the women drove around a village block to the Hicksville Municipal Building and stopped.

There was a struggle over the keys, police said, and the 85-year-old was able to get out of the car. She had minor injuries, police said.

The carjacker went north in the 1995 Oldsmobile Intrigue. It is a maroon four-door, which has not been recovered.

The suspect is described as white, in her early 20s, and 5-foot-4 or 5-foot-5, with a small build. She had brown hair and brown eyes and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a gray bandanna, dark blue basketball-type shorts trimmed with white, white socks and black tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hicksville police at 419-542-6661.
