A soft-spoken man might have been drunk when he robbed a near-northeast-side Scotts grocery store at gunpoint Tuesday.
The man walked up to the customer service counter in the store at 3109 N. Anthony Blvd. about 5:15 p.m., placed a semiautomatic pistol on the counter, handed the cashier a Disney Toy Story bag and told her to fill it with cash, a police report said.
The cashier told officers that throughout the robbery the man spoke in a calm, low voice and appeared to be intoxicated.
After she put the cash in the bag, the man ran to a waiting getaway car, police said.
The robber is described as having an average build, black with a dark complexion and in his late 40s. He had a short stubble beard that was partly gray and was wearing a black beanie cap, a red handkerchief around his neck, a brown Carhartt coat and dark-colored pants.
