FORT WAYNE – A LaOtto medical equipment provider said Thursday it will invest $1.6 million to relocate to Allen County in 2012.
Maxim Medical Services will also create 51 new local jobs as it moves its distribution operations and headquarters to 12632 U.S. 33, a Churubusco mailing address that lies within Allen County.
The company installs, re-manufactures and sells medical equipment to hospitals, surgical centers and consumers. Its lighting and audiovisual equipment are commonly used in operating rooms, plant manager James Harris said.
The company also plans to add up to 20 field technician positions nationwide, he said.
Maxim Medical now employs 26 but plans to triple its local workforce by the time it moves into the newly acquired 50,000-square-foot building, which is five times bigger than its current facility.
Weve just grown by leaps and bounds and are literally bursting at the seams, Harris said. It is all about the space.
Before it can move in, Maxim Medical needs to improve the shipping and loading area and reinforce the structure so heavy lights can be installed inside in mock surgical rooms. Customers, including doctors, will be able to come to the headquarters and work with the flat-screen monitors, video cameras and other equipment to make sure it suits their needs.
The privately owned company, founded in May 2003, is also investing in presses, mills, lathes and other equipment. The plans call for bringing more operations in-house, including powder coating.
The new jobs will include salespeople, field-service technicians, refurbishment technicians and powder coat-painting technicians. Salary ranges for the positions were not available.
The Allen County Council will consider phasing in taxes on the project, saving the company a potential of $23,083 over five years. The county is also offering a $27,000 grant.
WorkOne Northeast is offering Maxim Medical $75,000 in job-specific training, $25,000 in recruitment and assessment services and $10,000 in computer training services. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. will provide $175,000 in tax credits and $30,000 from the Skills Enhancement Fund.
Maxim is experiencing incredible growth, and were happy they have chosen to expand in northeast Indiana, Gov. Mitch Daniels said in a statement.
