Notre Dame got just what it needed from its first drive – a touchdown
Jimmy Clausen hit Golden Tate for an 8-yard touchdown to cap a nine-play, 69-yard drive against Connecticut to take a 7-0 lead with 10:59 to play in the first quarter.
David Ruffer handled the point-after attempt. Ruffer kicked in place of freshman Nick Tausch last week at Pittsburgh when Tausch came up lame after warmups.
It appears Ruffer, who also handles kickoffs, will be Notre Dame’s kicker again today.
Right tackle Sam Young started his 49th straight game giving him the most consecutive starts by any Notre Dame player.
