Charlie Weis said in his Sunday news conference today that he absolutely will not tender his resignation as Notre Dame's football coach. He also said it would be pretty hard to argue against his ouster at this point.
So he's going to make Notre Dame fire him, even though he suspects his days in South Bend are numbered. Nice.
You'd like to think he'd do the honorable thing. You'd like to think he has those impulses. You'd like to think that, just one time, the egos of big-time college football coaches would allow for an acknowledgment of personal accountability -- a concept Weis has never fully embraced, given his tendency to lay losses on the heads of his players first.
You'd like to think.
