Jimmie Johnson: An appreciation

NASCAR Post Ahead ...

And, OK, so I know everyone's sick to death of Jimmie Johnson. I know there are people who are vowing to turn off the sport and not turn it back on again until he stops winning, which makes him as bad for the sport as he is good.

But you know something?

Johnson (and his team, because appearances aside this is more a team sport than 99 percent of the sports we think of as team sports) just did something no one in the history of NASCAR has ever done. In fact, he just did something no team in any sport has done in more than 25 years -- or, since the New York Islanders won four straight Stanley Cups in the early 1980s.

Four Sprint Cup titles in a row?

That doesn't mean it's time for Johnson to stop winning. It's time for everyone else to step up and make him stop winning.

You want to save your sport from circling the drain, boys, that's where you start. Best get crackin'.
