Notre Dame running back Armando Allen cracked a bone in his right hand and will probably not play against Stanford this weekend, coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday.
Weis said he wasn't sure when Allen broke his hand, but he said it was sometime in the second quarter.
"He has a cracked bone in his right hand that he'll get fixed today, which will leave him probably out for this game," Weis said.
Allen leads the Irish in rushing with 697 yards and three touchdowns.
Weis said running backs Robert Hughes, Theo Riddick and Jonas Gray will share rushing duties in Saturday's 8 p.m. road game.
"It'll be Riddick, Hughes, and we'll get Jonas some in the mix this week too," Weis said. "(Gray) has been one guy behind, but we will bump him up some to get him some reps as well. It will probably be a combination to start of the game of Theo and Robert, not necessarily in that order."
Notre Dame could get the services of tight end Kyle Rudolph back this week.
The sophomore, who has 33 catches for 364 yards and three touchdowns, injured a muscle in his shoulder against Navy and missed the last two games.
Weis said Rudolph is cleared to play, but he will have to see how Rudolph performs in practice before making a decision.
"He's practicing today," Weis said. "It's how much pain he's going to be able to tolerate. We will start practicing today, and we will see how it goes as the week goes on. The hope is for him to be able to go at a very non-limited capacity on Saturday."
Right guard Trevor Robinson is still battling an ankle injury. The sophomore came out in the third quarter last Saturday against Connecticut because the injury flared up.
"His ankle gave way, and he'll be starting all over again this week," Weis said. "He'll be out there today, and we will see how it goes. I'm sure he'll be playing in the game (Saturday), and somewhere in the game we will probably lose him again. Until he can really get it rest, that's where it is going to be."
