A Warsaw man has been arrested and charged in connection with the Monday night armed robbery of a Walgreens, Warsaw police said today.

David E. Buell, 30, was held on charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and theft, police said in a statement.

Police said the Walgreens at 2400 E. Center St. called 911 about 9:45 p.m. to report an armed robbery in which a man displayed a shotgun and demanded Oxycontin. The suspect had a white cloth covering his face, police said. They said he obtained three Oxycontin bottles and ran from the store to an older-model red pickup with chrome on the tailgate and a very loud exhaust.

About 30 minutes earlier, police said, the Kosciusko County sheriff's department took a complaint alleging unauthorized control of a red pickup truck. Following the robbery, they said, the complainant called back to say the truck had returned to a home on East County Road 300 North.

Police said sheriff's deputies, Indiana State Police and Winona Lake police located Buell at the residence, where he fled on foot and was captured after a brief foot pursuit.

Officers located three bottles of Oxycontin and several shotgun rounds, police said.
