The Monroeville driver charged with driving drunk and killing an Antwerp, Ohio, mother Tuesday when he ran a stop sign has a history of arrests for driving while intoxicated, court records show.
Brian P. Mansfield had a blood-alcohol level of 0.37 percent, almost five times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, when his pickup truck hit 45-year-old Jacqueline K. Yenser’s Ford sport utility vehicle about 4 p.m. at Indiana 101 and Dawkins Road in east Allen County, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Yenser died at the scene, the 29th traffic death of the year in Allen County. Her teenage daughter was taken to a hospital in serious condition, where she was expected to be treated and released.
Mansfield, 52, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Court documents said that he was cursing and arguing with police after the crash and that he needed support to stand.
He was charged Tuesday with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury. He was being held at the Allen County Lockup in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Mansfield was convicted of drunken driving twice more than 20 years ago. He was also convicted of being a habitual traffic violator, a felony, after an arrest in 1989, court records show.
He was arrested in December 2002 on three counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, although the charges were later dismissed.
Despite his previous arrests, Mansfield had a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash, Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Steve Stone said.
