Komets lose 3-1

By Justin A. Cohn
The Journal Gazette

The Komets tested the IHL's top team with plenty of scoring chances Friday night. But the Muskegon Lumberjacks capitalized on theirs better, downing Fort Wayne 3-1, in front of 2,615 fans at L.C. Walker Arena.

The Komets outshot the Lumberjacks 39-19 but only forward Justin Chwedoruk was able to put the puck into the net, during the penalty marred game.

There were 26 penalties called by referee Ryan Hutchison. Both teams converted on 1 of 10 power plays.

Muskegon's goals came from Adam Welch and Robin Bouchard, who gave the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead at 7:35 of the second period. Chwedoruk answered at 1:07 of the third period, and Bouchard scored again, on a power play, at 10:18.

Chwedoruk has scored in four consecutive games.

The Lumberjacks (12-3-1) have won nine straight games. The Komets (10-5-0), who had their three-game winning streak snapped, play host to the Port Huron Icehawks tonight.

The Komets defeated the Lumberjacks in the Turner Cup Finals last spring, but they've lost the last three games against them.

AvatarOh, and Todd Collins is the new Heavy-weight Champion as Schrocky Balboa got his block-knocked-off.

Fic said it best....."Kaleigh Schrock leaves the ice with a bloody mask on his face"

So once again, Furyjerks are 4-0 against the Komets since the on-ice-beatdown they gave us and we still haven't stood-up to them physically or on the scoreboard. I saw elbows high to Komet's heads again tonight, and no one can answer the bell. Whatever.

AvatarLet me be the first to predict....

Larry Sterling will once again not play on MC ice. He will be Larry the DoorMan on the bench. Or Larry the WaterBoy. Not to be confused with Larry the PA Guy.

AvatarSorry, FuryJerks are 3-0 against us since the GoonFest.

I watched the fight and didnt see any blood on Schrock's face. I thought Collins edged him out. Both were throwing em, but I don't think either of them landed anything. Collins threw a few more punches. The officiating was horrible! Every time somebody fell down he blew the whistle.

AvatarThe Lumberjoke fans on other message boards are acting like Collins beat the tar out of Schrock. The video proves they, like their team.. Are grossly over-confident. Fic is, was, and will always be a moron.

Not quite the beating Muskegon fans would like you to believe...A win for Collins but Schrocky wasn't taken out behind the woodshed by any stretch

The K's play last night for the most part was just plain boring. The only person I see taken the body on a consistant level is Schrock and he is the only one who likes to get involoved. Rodger is non-existant, Phillips has to play more physical, and we miss Mac!! I say Syro is making a case to stick in the AHL. The other thing I have notice is the musical chairs being played with line combinations. I think right now we are trying to survive and our play looks like that.

Please read my first post on "Komets win wild 5-4 game" and see if you all now understand my reasoning for writing it. There are things not right on a variety of levels. There are some very favorite veterans that have not contributed nearly enough.
They need to look in the mirror and rededicate themselves. My personal plea to them would be for the entire team to look for the shot and crash the net. I aim these "thoughts" mostly to the forwards. The defenseman have made mistakes but so many of them are rookies that you have to expect some. Nonetheless, the defense and goaltending have not been the problem. On opening night I would have never expected the lack of goal scoring. Signing O'Conner and Chewy were great moves. Syro's absence has hurt the offense but he is gone (probably for good). The front office needs to quit playing the IR "game" and solidify the lineup with people who can put the puck in the net. Some tough decisions need to be made. (Oh yes, a personal plea to Colin Chaulk). Colin, you make everybody better when you are on the ice. Please keep the stick down so you, as the best player on the team, don't spend so much time in the penalty box with all the hooking, slashing, and high sticking calls. The team needs you on the ice, especially now.

AvatarCollins may have won that one, but it wasn't a beating. If you want a beating you can wait until Mac is back and cleans house against the "lumberjokes".....

We need another enforcer. Shrockey can't do it all. Stayzer and Bert can't do anythinf. Stayzer always smiles to the other guy after or during the fight. Then Bert waits till the game is over to do something. We NEED A ENFORCER! evil

Avatar"But we have Bertram Stayzer Schrock"

That would make for a very formidable opponent if one could combine the best attributes of each one of those players....however, we can clone sheep, not hockey players.... mrgreen
