Komets lose 3-1

The Komets tested the IHL's top team with plenty of scoring chances Friday night. But the Muskegon Lumberjacks capitalized on theirs better, downing Fort Wayne 3-1, in front of 2,615 fans at L.C. Walker Arena.

The Komets outshot the Lumberjacks 39-19 but only forward Justin Chwedoruk was able to put the puck into the net, during the penalty marred game.

There were 26 penalties called by referee Ryan Hutchison. Both teams converted on 1 of 10 power plays.

Muskegon's goals came from Adam Welch and Robin Bouchard, who gave the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead at 7:35 of the second period. Chwedoruk answered at 1:07 of the third period, and Bouchard scored again, on a power play, at 10:18.

Chwedoruk has scored in four consecutive games.

The Lumberjacks (12-3-1) have won nine straight games. The Komets (10-5-0), who had their three-game winning streak snapped, play host to the Port Huron Icehawks tonight.

The Komets defeated the Lumberjacks in the Turner Cup Finals last spring, but they've lost the last three games against them.
