CHEERS to the Bishop Dwenger High School students and faculty for once again volunteering on a Saturday to aid us in maintaining the beauty of our church and grounds. CHEERS to the Bishop Dwenger faculty for continuing to teach by their actions the importance of community involvement.
THE REV. PHILLIP A. WIDMANN PARISHIONERS St. Peter Catholic Church Fort Wayne
CHEERS to Troop 200 of Bishop Dwengers Saints-on-the-Move club, Phil Jordlete, Tyler Clark, Emily Tomlinson and Sarah Thill, who came to my house Oct. 24 to rake leaves, clean gutters and prepare my lawn for winter. Sarahs mother, Julia, was their supervisor.
I want to thank them publicly. In an age when so many bad things that teenagers do get so much media coverage, it is refreshing and gratifying to know that not only these four students, but a total of 990 students, took part in this service.
M.D. THOMPSON Fort Wayne
A heartfelt CHEERS to the two Comcast workers who found my camera that I didnt know I had lost. After asking several people, they finally found me.

CHEERS to the Walmart shoppers who recently gave generously to the Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. We raised money to support DAR Project Patriot to buy phone cards for wounded soldiers at Lantstuhl Regional Medical Center and for the soldiers at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center. CHEERS also to the Walmart stores on Coldwater Road and Southtown Crossing for the opportunity to use space near the entrance. Theyre all the greatest!
NANCY BOYLAN Fort Wayne
JEERS to the city of Fort Wayne. After three months, the sewer project on Cambridge Avenue is still not completed. The city should hire someone with the resources to do the job in a timely manner.
THOMAS BUTCHER Fort Wayne
CHEERS to the community organizations and individuals who responded to the call for interpreters for Fairfield Elementary School parent-teacher conferences. Represented as volunteer interpreters and support were students and staff from IPFW; Wells Fargo Bank on Clinton Street and Rudisill Boulevard; the city of Fort Wayne; Fort Wayne Community Schools staff; and individual community members. We could not have done this without them. CHEERS also to FWCS and the Fort Wayne Education Association for coming to agreement to allow a way for teachers and parents to continue this important communication opportunity for all in FWCS.
JEFF CLINE Principal Fairfield Elementary School Fort Wayne
CHEERS to Sgt. Mike Harris of the Indiana State Police, who went above and beyond the call to duty in continuing to search for a missing man from the Snow Lake-Fremont area in spite of many people giving up hope. Stuart Stalcup went missing on Oct. 11. Numerous unsuccessful searches by the state and local authorities did not locate Stalcup. While flying a plane on Nov. 4, Harris noticed something suspicious on the ground. He investigated on foot and found Stalcups body. Harris diligence and perseverance is to be greatly commended.

Once again the community enthusiastically joined the North Manchester Rotary for breakfast to help raise money for local projects and programs. Even without polling this November, Rotarys traditional Election Day gathering for food and fellowship raised needed money. Rotary used the money for books for area children, scholarships, leadership programs for Manchester High School students, the library, parks and recreation and other worthy causes.
CHEERS to the organizations that contributed to the North Manchester Rotary pancake and sausage breakfasts, whose contributions enhance the abilities of the North Manchester Rotary to help make our community and world better.
