Nowitzki, Mavericks blast Pacers at home

INDIANAPOLIS – Dirk Nowitzki scored 31 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 113-92 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

Nowitzki, who entered the night sixth in the NBA at 26.9 points per game, made 10 of 14 field goals and 11 of 13 free throws. Jason Terry scored 17 and Kris Humphries added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Mavericks (12-4), winners of five straight road games.

Danny Granger, who missed Wednesday’s victory over the Clippers with a sprained ligament in his left knee, finished with 20 points for the Pacers (6-8). Indiana guard Mike Dunleavy returned from a right knee injury and scored 13 in his season debut.

Dallas, which leads the Southwest Division, opened a 35-26 advantage on Jose Barea’s three-pointer to end the first quarter. The Mavericks pushed the lead to 22 on Nowitzki’s free throw in the second quarter, but the Pacers trimmed the deficit to 12 before intermission.

Jason Kidd’s three gave Dallas an 84-64 advantage with 4 minutes left in the third quarter, and Terry’s dunk extended the lead to 26 later in the period.

BOBCATS 94, CAVALIERS 87: Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and the visiting Cavaliers looked disjointed in Shaquille O’Neal’s return from injury. Wallace topped 30 points for the second straight game, while LeBron James scored 25 points for Cleveland.

CELTICS 116, RAPTORS 103: Ray Allen scored 20 points and Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins had 18 apiece to lead host Boston. Chris Bosh had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Hedo Turkoglu also scored 20 points for Toronto.

CLIPPERS 104, PISTONS 96: Chris Kaman scored 26 points and Baron Davis added 25 to help visiting Los Angeles hand Detroit its seventh straight loss. Rookie Jonas Jerebko scored a career-best 22 points for Detroit.

WIZARDS 94, HEAT 84: Antawn Jamison scored 24 points and Nick Young added 22 to lead visiting Washington. Jamison scored his 16,000th career point. Jermaine O’Neal had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Miami.

HAWKS 100, 76ERS 86: In Philadelphia, Jamal Crawford scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and Mike Bibby added 21 as Atlanta snapped a two-game losing streak. Josh Smith scored 20 and Al Horford had 15 for the Hawks. Thaddeus Young scored 22 points for the struggling Sixers, who have dropped five in a row

SPURS 92, ROCKETS 84: Tim Duncan and Antonio McDyess recorded double-doubles and Tony Parker had 19 points as San Antonio earned its first road win of the season. Luis Scola had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Houston.

NUGGETS 128, KNICKS 125: Carmelo Anthony scored a career-high 50 points as Denver earned its 17th straight regular-season home win. Al Harrington had 41 points – one shy of his career high – for the Knicks, who lost their fourth straight. David Lee added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

SUNS 120, TIMBERWOLVES 95: Host Minnesota lost its 15th consecutive game as Jason Richardson scored 22 points to lead Phoenix. Steve Nash had nine points and 11 assists and Grant Hill had 17 points and five assists for the Suns, who have the best record in the NBA at 13-3.
