Kelly silent, Patterson nears extension

Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly declined to talk about Notre Dame on Tuesday as his No. 5 Bearcats get ready to play Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The Associated Press reported that Cincinnati tight end Ben Guidugli said Kelly hasn't addressed the issue with the team but wished Kelly would. Kelly did say that in-season coaching searches can make it uncomfortable for rumored candidates.

On another rumored coaching candidate front, TCU appears to be close to taking coach Gary Patterson's name out of the running for Charlie Weis' replacement.

The AP reported that Patterson is close to signing an extension with the Horned Frogs that would add two years to his deal, which runs through 2014, and TCU's assistant coaches would receive raises.
