Uncertain future

Notre Dame receiver Golden Tate said the news that Charlie Weis will not be returning next year will play a role in his future plans.

Tate, who set school records for catches (93) and receiving yards (1,496) in a season this year, said Weis' firing and the next Irish coach will factor into his decision of returning for a senior season or entering the NFL draft.

"It could impact it both ways," Tate said. "(Coach Weis and I) are going to talk Friday, along with my family, and see what's best for me and my family. We'll see."

Another factor in Tate's decision will be what quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who did not attend Monday's news conference about Weis' firing, does.

"At this point, what Jimmy does in very important on my decision," Tate said.

Along with the meeting to discuss his future, Tate said he expects to see Weis at the team's banquet Friday.

"We'll get to spend some time with him, say goodbye and express how we feel about him," Tate said.
