Luers hoops No. 1 - twice

The Bishop Luers basketball programs got a double dose of top-ranked magic Monday with the release of the two hoops state polls.

Both the Luers girls and boys basketball teams are ranked No. 1 in Class 2A in their respective polls.

The girls team is 4-0 and will play at North Side (2-2) on Thursday. The Knights have wins over Brebeuf and Heritage Christian, two traditionally strong programs.

This as Luers is dealing with a couple of injuries to Catherine Barnett and Ave Stout is amazing.

The two-time defending 2A state champion boys team opens their season Saturday at home against Mishawaka Marian (1-0).

Not sure when the last time both genders in a school's basketball program around northeast Indiana was ranked No. 1 during the same week, but it is a pretty good accomplishment.

Especially since the football team is just coming off the program's eighth 2A state championship last Friday.
