Polanski

Susan Boyle’s debut album, “I Dreamed A Dream,” entered the British charts in the top spot Sunday. The Scottish songstress, 48, famously finished second on “Britain’s Got Talent.”

According to Official Charts Co., the more than 410,000 copies of “I Dreamed a Dream” sold since its release Nov. 23 make it the fastest-selling album this year, and are the largest first-week sales for a debut album in British chart history.

Tree sees star power

Sheryl Crow and Common will perform at the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony Thursday by the National Mall. Jordin Sparks, Ray LaMontagne and Celtic Woman also will join the stage.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will help light the tree between the White House and the Washington Monument.

Director still jailed

Roman Polanski remained in jail Monday, despite visits from his lawyer and a French diplomat, and it was unclear whether the director had met Switzerland’s demand of a bail payment of $4.5 million to be released.

The Swiss Justice Ministry declined to say what Polanski has to do to be transferred to house arrest at his chalet in the luxury resort of Gstaad.

The filmmaker, 76, would be fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. He wouldn’t be allowed to leave his property as he awaits a decision on whether he will be extradited to the U.S. for a child rape conviction in 1977.
