State police said a trooper got more than he bargained for Thursday night when he stopped a pickup truck with one headline out -- 63 packets of heroin.

Trooper Mike Meiser stopped the 1998 pickup on U.S. 31 in Miami County about 11:20 p.m. and found the driver, Matthew Hayslip, 23, of Wabash, had a suspended license, according to a written statement from Indiana State Police in Peru.

A passenger, Michael Moore, 40, of LaFontaine, was wanted on a criminal warrant alleging domestic violence issued in Howard County, the statement said.

A police dog was brought in, and state police said the tinfoil packages were found with a substance inside believed to be heroin.

Hayslip and Moore were taken into custody to face a felony charge of possession of a Schedule I narcotic. They were being held in the Miami County Jail with a bond of $5,000 each.

State police said the heroin was bought in Chicago to be sold in Wabash.
