Jets win in Toronto but lose rookie QB

– Mark Sanchez threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards before hurting his right knee, and the New York Jets’ stingy defense finished the job in a 19-13 win over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

Sanchez went 7 of 15 for 104 yards and a 13-yard scoring strike to Edwards that put the Jets up 16-10 late in the first half. But the rookie first-round pick was knocked out of the game when he injured his knee diving headfirst on an 8-yard run early in the third quarter.

Jay Feely hit four field goals, including a 49-yarder, as the Jets (6-6) won their second straight game.

The Bills (4-8) struggled in the second half, when their offense was limited to 36 yards and four first downs.

After Rian Lindell hit a 32-yard field goal to cut the Jets’ lead to 19-13 with 5:28 left, the Bills were unable to muster a threat on their final possession.

The game was Buffalo’s second in Toronto, part of a five-year, $78 million deal.

Freeney, Hayden back with Colts

Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney returned to practice and cornerback Kelvin Hayden worked out for the second straight day, meaning both could play Sunday against Tennessee.

Freeney missed last week’s game with an abdominal injury. Hayden has missed four straight games with a knee injury.

Vikings’ Peterson: 109 mph in 55 zone

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was cited for speeding over the weekend after police clocked him driving 109 mph in suburban Minneapolis.

Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson said Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Peterson was driving his BMW on a state highway in a 55-mph zone. Peterson said he didn’t realize how fast he was going.

Seahawks’ GM ends tenure

Tim Ruskell has resigned as president and general manager of the Seattle Seahawks.

Ruskell announced his resignation, weeks before his five-year contract with the team ends.

The 4-7 Seahawks are on their way to a second straight season with no playoff berth.

2 injured working at Cowboys Stadium

Emergency crews atop Cowboys Stadium rescued two workers who fell from a roof area and were injured while doing maintenance. Assistant Fire Chief Don Crowson of Arlington, Texas, said the two were working on the top hatch of the venue when they apparently slipped.

Injury updates

Browns coach Eric Mangini says running back Jamal Lewis did not complain of concussion-like symptoms until one day after what turned out to be his final game. Lewis was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, effectively ending his NFL career. … Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt said he doesn’t expect to decide who will start at quarterback on Sunday night against Minnesota until just before game time. Kurt Warner suffered a concussion against St. Louis on Nov. 22 and sat out Sunday’s loss at Tennessee because of lingering symptoms.
