The sharp-shooting of Kyle Sorg should benefit the Bishop Luers boys basketball team.
The senior guard lit up Mishawaka Marian for eight three-pointers and 24 points as the two-time defending Class 2A state champion Knights opened the season with an impressive 96-60 win at home.
Luers had some question marks entering the season, despite having the prohibitive Mr. Basketball favorite in senior Deshaun Thomas, who had 43 points and 20 rebounds.
Any concerns of outside shooting may not be as great after Sorg's three-point barrage. The two Sorg brothers, Kyle and Eric, combined for 10 threes as Eric had two.
The Knights came close to 100 points, despite junior Evan Blackmon on the sideline because of disciplinary reasons.
With the Sorgs (and sophomore James Knapke) lighting things up from three, Kenny Mullen and Blackmon will be free to slash inside and then Thomas, who moved into the state's top 10 all-time scoring list at 2,297 points, could be even more of inside presence.
