Two men were arrested Saturday in Wawaka on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, according to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department.

Police arrested Roy E. Brickley Jr., 22, of Syracuse and Thomas W. Gibson, 44, of Radcliff, Ky.

While officers were investigating a separate case at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, they noticed chemical odors associated with making methamphetamine, police said.

Officers from Noble County, Ligonier, Albion and the Indiana State Police surrounded the house and tried to get the occupants to come out.

When officers were unable to get anyone in the house to respond, they obtained a search warrant. Northeast Indiana SWAT was called because of the volatile nature of methamphetamine and due to information that there were possibly firearms in the house.

The two suspects were found in the house at about 3:15 a.m. along with an active "one-pot" methamphetamine lab and a sawed-off  20-gauge shotgun, police said.

Once the house was secured, the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was contacted to render the chemicals safe to handle.

Police said numerous items connected with making methamphetamine were found inside and outside the house.
